Power outages in industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects often lead to heavy economic losses and potential safety hazards. As a reliable standby and prime power source, diesel generator sets are widely used in construction sites, hospitals, shopping malls, mines, data centers and overseas projects. However, many buyers face the problem of “insufficient power if too small, high cost if oversized”. This article introduces how to select proper power and configuration for different industries.

1. Small Commercial & Residential (50–200kW)

Shops, office buildings, small factories and residential backup power mainly supply lights, air conditioners and office equipment with low starting current and total load.
  • Recommended: 50kW, 100kW, 150kW, 200kW

  • Type: silent canopy — low noise, easy installation and maintenance

  • Frequency: 50Hz for domestic; 50/60Hz for export

2. Medium Commercial & Industrial (250–800kW)

Shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, medium factories and high-rise fire backup need stable power for many frequently started loads.
  • Recommended: 300kW, 400kW, 500kW, 600kW, 800kW

  • Configuration: ATS auto transfer, water cooling, silent or containerized

  • Advantage: fast start on outage, unattended operation, stable performance

3. Heavy Industrial & Field (1000–3000kW)

Mining, large construction, data centers, off-grid and overseas EPC projects require heavy-load, long-running power in harsh environments.
  • Recommended: 1000kW, 1200kW, 1500kW, 2000kW, 2500kW, 3000kW

  • Type: containerized, open-frame high-power, parallel operation

  • Feature: heavy-duty design, remote monitoring, dustproof & waterproof, long-term field use

4. Key Selection Rules

  • Prime vs Standby Power: standby power is ~10% higher than prime; select based on prime power.

  • 20% Power Margin: avoid full load to extend genset life.

  • Cooling: air-cooled for small units (easy maintenance); water-cooled for medium/large units (stable cooling).

  • Noise & Protection: silent canopy for residential/hospital; containerized for outdoor/overseas.

Conclusion

There is no “one-size-fits-all” diesel generator. Proper selection depends on load size, running hours, environment, voltage and frequency. KAWO provides a full range of 50–3000kW gensets, including open-frame, silent, containerized and ATS configurations, with customized voltage, frequency and remote monitoring systems to meet power demands across industries worldwide。
